THE PARISH NURSING MINISTRY
is a health ministry which focusseson the wholeness of body, mind, and spirit in Parishes and faith communities. The ministry is based upon the belief that the church is a place of health and healing and has a role in integrating faith and health.
PARISH NURSING MINISTRY addresses the physical, psychological and spiritual needs of individuals in community with one another in a congregation or agency and celebrates a reverence for life by joining in the journey towards well-being.
A PARISH NURSE is a registered Nurse with a mature faith, who is called to a health and healing ministry in the church or community agency. As a church or agency staff team member, the Parish Nurse is committed to ongoing theological reflection and education, working with clergy, the congregation or agency and the community.
The Parish Nurse functions as:
An integrator of faith and health
A personal health and faith counsellor
A health educator
An advocate and referral resource
A multiplier of “ministers” training volunteers
Parish Nurses, Clergy and Health Advisory Team Members of Partnership congregations and agencies are automatically eligible for free enrolment in Levels I, II, and III of the Education Program
